Biography
About Dr. James Magara
Dr. James Magara is a renowned leadership consultant, futurist, author, and dental professional whose influence spans Uganda, Africa, and beyond. Recognized as a thought leader on leadership and governance in Africa, he has spoken at high-level leadership gatherings across three continents, inspiring leaders to embrace excellence, integrity, and innovation.
He is the author of the groundbreaking book Positioning Africa in the 21st Century: The Pivotal Role of Leadership and Think Tanks, which challenges African leaders to harness the continent’s vast human capital and adopt a new leadership paradigm for rapid transformation.
Passionate about raising the next generation of African leaders, Dr. Magara has been instrumental in leadership development, mentoring, and capacity building. He facilitates and develops curricula for servant leadership and business training programs such as the Sundoulos African Leaders Training (SALT) Program, the Africa Kingdom Business Forum (AKBF), and the Institute for National Transformation (INT), where he serves as the International Deputy Director General. Since 2007, he has also served as Chairman of the Uganda Youth Forum and currently chairs the Uganda Heart Institute.
With an impressive academic background, Dr. Magara holds a Doctor of Strategic Leadership from Regent University, USA, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University, a Master of Science in Dental Prosthetics from the University of Bristol (UK), and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Makerere University, Uganda. He has also earned advanced leadership certifications from the Haggai Institute (Hawaii, USA), the Institute for National Transformation, and the Sundoulos African Leadership Training Program.
Beyond his professional and leadership commitments, Dr. Magara is deeply rooted in family life. He is married to Lorna Magara, and together they have raised four adult children—Timothy, Joseph, David, and Jemima. They reside in Kampala, Uganda.
